- Instructure on Thursday announced Canvas Commons, a new platform integrated into its Canvas LMS.
- Canvas Commons leverages crowdsourcing and social sharing to simplify collaboration between educators. More specifically, they can build and share complete courses, store learning resources, utilize Canvas Commons' own resource database, easily move Canvas Commons material to Canvas, and share content selectively across the platform's entire network.
- Along with customer demand, the platform's development was shaped by Unizin, the consortium of universities including Colorado State University, Indiana University, the University of Florida, and the University of Michigan.

One big potential benefit of this new product: Professors teaching different sections of the same course can now easily pass materials back and forth, all without leaving theiron the LMS.
Along with shaping Canvas Commons' development, Unizin, which is building a Canvas-based platform of its own, will also be the first organization to pilot the platform. Also among the institutions adopting Canvas Commons: the University of Madison-Wisconsin. Once the limited pilot ends in a few months, other Canvas users will be able to take advantage of the platform's offerings.
