DubLabs’ natively integrated, unified campus mobile applications help higher education institutions drive student engagement, performance and retention
FALLS CHURCH, Va. – October 18, 2016 – DubLabs LLC, a leading provider of school-branded, unified mobile applications, today announced that it reached more than one million student downloads during the third quarter. In August alone, approximately 70,000 new students downloaded school-branded mobile apps on the DubLabs platform, and during August and September more than 800,000 students were actively using their campus mobile apps for the start of the back-to-school season.
Campus mobile apps on the DubLabs platform enable students to perform critical functions, such as adding and dropping classes, paying bills, viewing grades and class details as well as communicate directly with professors. DubLabs recently added a personalized push notification feature, which integrates natively with the institution’s student information system (SIS), learning management system (LMS) and other enterprise technologies to deliver personal messages directly to individual students on their mobile devices. Intuitively designed school-branded mobile apps on the DubLabs platform provide an authentically mobile experience that meets the needs of today’s mobile-first students as well as each school’s strategic objectives.
“Institutions, both four-and two-year colleges, are beginning to recognize how a robust, authentically mobile app can help drive student performance and engagement,” said Tony Orlando, CEO of DubLabs. “While our campus app provides a number of campus life features, back-end data reveals that it’s academic features that students use most – features that are dependent on native integrations with the institutions’ SIS and LMS.”
DubLabs’ latest module data report shows that 81 percent of students use the mobile app for viewing course information such as schedules, grades, assignments, enrollment and tuition payment assistance. Particularly, during the month of August, students most often used the apps’ course detail feature, with more than 470,000 visits to find information about their class discussions, announcements, roster and schedule.
“Our students have embraced mobile technology in general and the IIT mobile app in specific,” said Vincent Battista, director of enterprise systems at Illinois Institute of Technology. “So we see giving them easy access to academic information as an excellent way to keep students engaged and on target.”
According to a recent EDUCAUSE study, 83 percent of adults between the ages of 18 and 29 own a smartphone and mobile device ownership is even higher amongst college students, with 86 percent of undergraduates owning a smartphone in 2014. As students can become easily overwhelmed by trying to balance their social and academic lives, it’s important for them to have access to a tool that’s intuitive and helps them stay on track and ahead of their rigorous academic schedules. Universities and community colleges have great potential to enrich the overall college experience by understanding the changes in the way students communicate, gather information and allocate time and attention in the ever-growing mobile landscape.
