Partnership expands online access to new digital literacy platform while enabling struggling readers—and skilled readers—to increase fluency and comprehension through novel digital reading technology.
San Francisco, CA December 13, 2017---BeeLine Reader, a research-backed tool that improves online reading ability by using eye-guiding color gradients in text, today announced that their technology has been adopted by Reading Is Fundamental, the largest child literacy nonprofit in the country.
Founded in 1966, Reading is Fundamental has a long history of providing underserved students with books and curriculum activities to promote literacy and quality of life. The nonprofit has just launched its first digital reading platform, Literacy Central, complementing its ongoing print distribution with digital content to reach students where they learn. The new resource gives parents, educators and children access to thousands of free supplemental literacy resources designed to increase interest, comprehension and frequency of reading among children. This content is now more accessible than ever through BeeLine Reader’s online reading functionality.
“Reading on screen is different from reading on paper, both for skilled readers and for students who are learning to read,” says Nick Lum, BeeLine Reader founder and CEO. “Visual tracking is one aspect that can be more challenging on screen, and this is especially problematic for emerging readers, ELL students, and students with dyslexia or other learning differences. BeeLine Reader’s technology makes online content accessible to these readers and enables many of them to read with unprecedented fluency and enjoyment.”
“When we first saw BeeLine Reader, we knew it would be the perfect addition to our new digital platform, Literacy Central,” says Ed DeLeon, Reading is Fundamental’s Chief Program Officer. “BeeLine Reader’s research-backed technology will enable our students to improve their reading skills even more quickly.”
About BeeLine Reader
BeeLine Reader is a research-backed tool that improves reading ability for students of all ages and skill levels. By displaying text using color gradients that wrap from the end of one line to the beginning of the next, BeeLine Reader facilitates visual tracking and enables the reader to focus on other aspects of reading, such as decoding and comprehension.
Independent research by educators and literacy nonprofits shows that BeeLine Reader provides strong benefits for readers across general education, special education, and ESL/ELL. BeeLine Reader’s technology has been adopted by literacy nonprofits Bookshare.org and Reading Is Fundamental, as well as the California Public Library System. BeeLine Reader’s tools have been used to read over 250 million pages by readers in 120 countries.
