San Francisco, CA — [05/20/2026] — Edvisor, the AI courseware platform serving numerous colleges and universities across the United States and Canada, today announced a $1.3 million pre-seed investment round led by Draper Associates and the appointment of Dr. George Philip LeBourdais as Director of Product and Learning.
The investment will accelerate Edvisor's work building AI-resilient, accessible, and affordable course-pack technology for college faculty. Edvisor's platform creates fully interactive course materials from a single uploaded syllabus, letting instructors design student-facing learning experiences in hours rather than weeks. Students save an average of $75 per course. The company currently serves 50+ institutions, with concentration in public universities and community colleges that have historically been underserved by incumbent textbook publishers and high-priced courseware platforms.
Tim Draper said of the investment, “The $200B educational materials market has barely changed in decades, and there is an enormous opportunity to transform the industry. Edvisor is doing what the great companies do: making something expensive and inaccessible into something affordable and 10x better. Education will never be the same.”
“We do not need more chatbots in classrooms. Higher ed requires a complete rethink that puts students first and prepares them for the AI-first future. With Edvisor, we are taking on the dinosaurs of the textbook industry and making learning more efficient, multi-modal and cheaper,” share co-founders Shariq Shah and Rameez Mahmood.
LeBourdais joins Edvisor full-time after serving as the company’s fractional Head of Learning. He holds a PhD from Stanford University in the digital humanities where he managed undergrad research programs and worked for the Vice Provost of Teaching and Learning. A former Fulbright Scholar now completing an MBA at Santa Clara University in innovation, he previously led Strategic Initiatives at Polygence.org, an academic mentorship platform backed by Reach Capital and Learn Capital.
"I've spent my career helping people learn, and I'm excited about the opportunities AI offers to reinvigorate content while providing instructors more space for the live classroom interactions that make college so rewarding," said LeBourdais. “AI in higher ed has often focused on tutoring on one hand and detection on the other. Edvisor is going after something bigger: helping instructors design engaging, AI-resilient courses with materials that are affordable, accessible, and proven to lift student outcomes.”
Edvisor's platform is anchored on three core pillars:
- Affordability. Students pay a small software fee instead of a $150 textbook, with average savings of approximately $75 per course.
- Accessibility. Materials are ADA-ready by default, with accessibility integration embedded rather than retrofitted after the fact.
- AI-Resilience. Assessment design maintains academic integrity in classrooms where students have access to generative AI.
The investment will fund continued product development and the expansion of Edvisor's institutional footprint across North America. The company plans additional partnership announcements in the coming months.
