Dear readers,

The latest data on international student enrollment, an important source of tuition revenue for many U.S. colleges and universities, shows what many had expected: a significant downturn for the 2020-21 academic year. Driven down by pandemic challenges, the enrollment of students from overseas dropped sharply, particularly among students from China and India.

While there are some signs of a possible rebound this year, the effects of last year's dramatically smaller international student cohort will be felt for at least several years to come.
