The proposed resolution appeared to come out of nowhere and it responded to events that went unmentioned, as few members of the American Association of University Professors acknowledged knowing anything about them and those in the know remained silent. In the end, however, the AAUP members gathered for the group's annual meeting here felt compelled to get behind the measure, given how steeped it was in their organization's core values.
