According to a new report from the Council of Graduate Schools, applications from prospective Chinese students accounted for nearly half of all international applicants to graduate programs.
Over all, foreign graduate-student applications for fall 2012 increased 9 percent. That follows an 11-percent gain in applications in fall 2011 and matches the 9-percent growth in 2010.
China, which saw an 18-percent uptick in applications, is not the only country from which there is a surge in interest. Applications from Mexico grew 17 percent, while those from Brazil increased 14 percent. Canadian graduate applications climbed 9 percent.
