Dive Brief:
- A former University of Central Arkansas chief of staff has been convicted of providing his master key to a student who stole tests from university offices.
- Jack Gillean was found guilty of six counts of commercial burglary and sentenced to three years in prison. The student received immunity in exchange for testifying against Gillean.
- Gillean's attorney claimed that the student, Cameron Stark, took the keys without Gillean's knowledge, and that Stark lied to avoid jail time.
Dive Insight:
Stealing tests, and committing burglaries to steal them, is serious business. Gillean resigned in 2012 after the keys case came to light. Gillean and Stark were apparently friends, with Stark often staying over at Gillean’s apartment and bringing girlfriends over. A university detective also testified that Gillean apparently shared marijuana with Stark.
