- Brewton-Parker College in Georgia has lost its accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for failure to meet financial stability and controls requirements. The accreditor placed four other schools on probation.
- The Baptist college will appeal the association’s ruling, which jeopardizes its eligibility for federal financial aid and possibly its ability to remain open, Inside Higher Ed reports.
- The college’s president, Ergun Caner, said in a press release that Brewton-Parker is operating in the black, with a balanced budget for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 fiscal years, and that he is confident the association will reconsider its decision.

Caner also said that Brewton-Parker will appeal the accreditor’s decision in the courts. The college was put on probation by South Association in June 2013. In addition to stripping Brewton-Parker of its accreditation, the four other colleges were placed on probation: Louisiana College, Newberry College, and Paine College—all private non-profit institutions—and South Carolina State University.
