Dive Brief:
- The 23 Corinthian Colleges schools in California, including Heald, Wyotech, and Everest Colleges, can no longer receive GI Bill funds for U.S. veterans who are students.
- The California Department of Veterans Affairs, also known as CalVet, announced the withdrawal of its approval for Corinthian schools on Monday.
- CalVet said it took action after Corinthian didn’t comply with the conditions set by the California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education, a unit of CalVet, which had suspended the for-profit's schools in June.
Dive Insight:
The June suspension was issued after Corinthian disclosed in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it was selling and closing schools, the latter of which are set to teach out any remaining students. That suspension gave Corinthian an Aug. 23 deadline to show that it had either found a buyer for its California schools or that it had the financial resources to continue their operation. CalVet said it has been working with veterans on Corinthian campuses to make them aware of available services and resources.
