- Over 1,000 demonstrators staged a peaceful sit-in at St. Louis University early Monday morning, following the closing of an intersection by protesters Sunday night and a march through St. Louis to protest the Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown.
- The protests were planned in detail and kept under wraps by organizers until just before the “weekend of resistance” that featured the civil disobedience events, the Washington Post reported.
- The intersection was shut down by protesters jumping rope, playing hopscotch, and tossing footballs.

As the protesters approached the university, campus security and police tried to block them, but ultimately stepped aside and let the crowd onto the campus. Students then came out of buildings to join or photograph the demonstration, or provide water bottles, the Post reported. Protest leaders told the crowd on campus that they wanted to end white supremacy and address systemic problems.
