- On Monday, New York University's (NYU) faculty of arts and sciences began a five day-long vote of no-confidence in John Sexton, the president of the school.
- A significant portion of the faculty may be against Sexton but, even if the faculty vote ends in no confidence, Sexton's fate lies squarely in the hands of the board of trustees, who have said they support the president; despite the board's strong backing of Sexton, a successful no-confidence vote would create a state of unrest and uncertainty at the school.
- The main grievance of the faculty of arts and sciences is that they were not consulted for Sexton's major policy decisions, such as NYU expansion efforts both at home and abroad; other faculties at NYU are watching the no-confidence vote closely as they consider whether to follow suit.
From the article:
"... Ross suggested that among other faculties eying a confidence vote were the Tisch school of the arts, the Gallatin achool, and the Steinhardt school of culture, education and human Development.
'Faculty senators are certainly interested in following suit,' he added. The faculty of arts and science vote closes Friday at 6pm, with the result expected soon after."
