Dive Brief:
- Polk State College business professor David Scott Broxterma has been arrested and charged with grand theft and cheating for lying about having a doctorate from the University of South Florida.
- Broxterman was hired in January 2009 and became a full-time professor in January 2010. During his five years at the school, he was paid $258,760 until he was placed on administrative leave at the end of the spring semester.
- Because the wages were obtained as a result of fraud, the State Attorney’s Office is labeling them as stolen, the Ledger Media Group reported.
Dive Insight:
Broxterman had claimed he had a doctorate from the University of South Florida, though he never was a student there, the State Attorney’s Office reported. Broxterman was well-liked by his students, Ledger Media reported, but a sloppy forger. On his fake University of South Florida diploma that hung in his office, the president’s name was incorrect and the word “board” was misspelled.
