- Ward, who was appointed in April, has implemented several other cost-cutting measures at the struggling school, including cutting 4% of its workforce and moving some employees to 10-month work years instead of 12.
Dive Insight:
The News & Observer reports that fall enrollment figures for St. Augustine’s are up in the air because some students are still putting together their financial aid packages. More budget cuts may be required, depending on what those figures are. Ward says the university’s finances are improving, but the school isn’t in the clear yet. The interim president has also refocused the university on four areas academically: mass communications and journalism; science, math and technology; criminal justice; and public health.
