Dive Insight:
The faculty expansion would be considerable — currently, UC Riverside has 673 tenure-track professors, The Press-Enterprise reported. In remarks made after his speech, Wilcox told the newspaper that the new faculty hires were necessary in part because of staff cuts in the wake of the economic downturn. The planned interdisciplinary research building would have space for 60 research groups. The chancellor also called for a better strategy for attracting international students, which now number 4,000. Wilcox started as chancellor in August, at an annual salary of $354,000.
