Dive Brief:
- A graduate seminar called "Breaking Down 'Breaking Bad'" starts this week at New York's University at Buffalo; not surprisingly, students are required to have watched the entire series before the class.
- Bruce Jackson, professor in the school's English department, told a reporter that "Breaking Bad" is unlike "The Sopranos," "The Wire," or "Homeland" in that the AMC show is "one epic narrative 60 hours long."
- The course will feature guest speakers from the Drug Enforcement Agency and an instructor on legal ethics.
Dive Insight:
This is not the first AMC series getting academic treatment; "The Walking Dead" was the subject of a recent MOOC. The seeds for this course were planted by a student who told Jackson he should watch "Breaking Bad." Needless to say, he enjoyed it.
