Accommodating students and staff with a wide variety of mobile devices can introduce problems for university IT departments, whether their institutions have official BYOD policies or not. And those problems clearly have CIOs concerned.
Education Dive's 2013 "Mobility in Higher Education" survey got to the heart of where that concern comes from. We asked the 50 higher ed CIOs who participated to identify their biggest worries with BYOD issues on campus.
Far and away, the most common response was security, with 30% checking the category as their No. 1 source of BYOD anxiety. Another 20% nodded to scalability, while cost and other issues, such as support, keep everyone else up at night.
