Dive Brief:
- E. Gordon Gee, the former Ohio State University president who became interim leader of West Virginia University in December, is set to make the job permanent.
- The school's search committee has asked that the stipulation that the interim president not be a candidate for the permanent post be rescinded.
- In doing so, the head of the search committee called Gee "absolutely, hands-down the very best person to be at the helm of West Virginia University."
Dive Insight:
Gee was president at West Virginia University from 1981 to 1985. He retired from the OSU presidency last year after he said "you just can't trust those damn Catholics" in reference to Notre Dame. While that joke may have been taken out of context by many (and probably shouldn't have been said in the first place), that's not to say he doesn't still love a good joke.
