Smartphones make it easier than ever for university CIOs to take their work home from the office at night. But are they really connected to campus from the moment they wake up in the morning? In our 2013 "Mobility in Higher Education" survey, we tried to find out.
When asked CIOs how long it takes for them to check their phone for the first in the morning, and almost half of them indicated that they wait less than five minutes after they wake up. That response weighs heavily against the 2% who wait until they arrive at their offices.
Here's the visual breakdown for our survey responses on the subject:

Less than 5 minutes—49.0%
Between 6-20 minute—32.7%
Between 21-60 minutes—12.2%
Over an hour—4.1%
Not until I get to the office—2%
