For baccalaureate institutions, the median increase was greater for public institutions, 2.4%, compared to privates, at 2%. For master’s and special focus institutions, the increases were the same for both public and private institutions, at 2%. The Consumer Price Index for urban consumers rose 1.5% in 2013 from 2012, so the median salaries for both public and private institutions beat inflation. Not including coaches, the survey found the highest-paid position was staff physician, at $142,106, followed by staff attorney, veterinarian, pharmacist, and senior technology licensing officer. The lowest-paid position was student residence hall manager, with room and board included, at $31,147. The survey was based on the salaries of 186,668 positions in public and private institutions nationwide.
