More mobile devices on campus mean more apps, and university CIOs use them as much as anyone on their smartphones and tablets. Yesterday, we brought you their favorite mobile apps for work, as indicated by 50 CIO responses on our 2013 "Mobility in Education Survey." Today, we present their top picks for when they aren't on the clock.
University CIOs make it possible for students, educators and administrators to use their mobile devices on campus. To get a sense of what they personally like to do with their phones, we asked CIOs what their favorite mobile apps are.
Unsurprisingly, large percentages of CIOs listed email (70.8%) and internet browsing (18.75%) as two of the primary non-work-related activities they perform on their mobile devices. What should come as a surprise, however, is that 16.7% of CIOs listed Facebook as one of their top 3 apps. Go figure—university CIOs use social media, too. Amazon's Kindle e-book app came in second, while Evernote, the note-taking app that was so popular with CIOs at work, rounded out the top 3. Take a look:
RESULTS:
Facebook — 16.7%
Kindle — 12.5%
Evernote — 10.4%
