• Gunfire at Kent State University on Wednesday night put the campus into lockdown mode for about an hour.
• No injuries were reported after a man apparently fired a shot into the ground during an argument he was having with a woman.
• Police said they arrested the man, who was not identified, about three hours later, after he fled the campus.

Fortunately — or maybe unfortunately — in today’s world, police agencies and college students have become well trained in how to respond to campus shooting incidents and other emergencies. As of early Thursday, it was not known whether the man or woman in the dispute were Kent State students. During the lockdown, two buildings were evacuated room by room.
