Dive Brief:
- The New Mexico state auditor has cleared Santa Fe Community College of wrongdoing alleged by a former president of the school.
- The ex-president, Ana “Cha” Guzmán, had accused the college of financial improprieties after she was fired by the college’s governing board, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported.
- Guzman was fired for “just cause” in December 2013, with the board accusing her of dishonesty, willful misconduct, and behavior that brought disrespect to the school.
Dive Insight:
Apparently, the college won’t be receiving a refund of the $500,000 it paid to Guzman in March for her to drop the whistleblower lawsuit she had filed against the school. She alleged that the college improperly paid $140,000 each to 24 employees and incorrectly processed $1.8 million paid for temp employees. Guzman worked as president for the school for 18 months.
