Dive Brief:
- An adjunct professor at Cedarville University, a small Christian college in Cedarville, OH, has lost his job over a sexually suggestive online video for his campaign to unseat House Speaker John Boehner.
- J.D. Winteregg, a Tea Party candidate for the House of Representatives seat, had taught at Cedarville University for three years.
- The video is a parody of erectile dysfunction TV commercials, calling attention to the problem of “electile dysfunction.”
Dive Insight:
The video is pretty funny, and no more suggestive than the commercials that are shown incessantly during every national sports broadcast. One of the best lines from the video: "Used on a daily basis, Winteregg in Congress will help you every time the moment is right to have your voice heard at the federal level. If you have a Boehner lasting longer than 23 years, seek immediate medical attention.” Winteregg told the Washington Post that the university told him last week that his contract would not be renewed because of the video. A Cedarville University spokesman said that Winteregg’s video did not represent the views or values of the university.
