- Times Higher Education has released its ranking of the top 100 Under 50 Universities in the world that are younger than 50 years old.
- The Time Higher Education 100 Under 50 list for 2014 includes eight U.S. schools.

The U.S. school in the top 50 are the University of California, Irvine, ranked seventh; UC Santa Cruz at No. 11; University of Illinois at Chicago, 13th; and the University of Texas at Dallas, at 15. The magazine also does a world university overall ranking using a similar methodology, but the 100 Under 50 list gives less weight to subjective indicators. The criteria used for the ranking include measurements of research volume, income from grants, academic reputation, citations, learning environments, diversity, and academic collaboration.
