The work of a university goes on when students aren't in attendance, yes, but the stakes of canceling a day of work seem lower if a class day is not missed. Supervisors did have the option of letting employees work from home, but with nearly a foot of snow and temperatures well below zero, it might have been better and safer to issue a blanket directive to stay home.
