On Wednesday, Ranku launched its online learning comparison site to help students discover the best fit for them and, more importantly, avoid the scammers.
16 million students enrolled in online programs this year and, as an online education continues to become a more viable and valuable alternative for students, that number is only going to grow. Because of this, some for-profit institutions see online learning as a ripe space to sell students on an education that will never be worth it. Studies show graduates of for-profit programs earn less, have higher debt and are less likely to have a job.

Backed by startup accelerator TechStars, Ranku is giving students the lowdown on each individual provider's price, faculty-to-student ratio, number of programs, minimum GPA and much more. By helping students sort through the worthwhile online programs and the borderline fraudulent ones, Ranku could quickly make a name for itself. TechCrunch has already dubbed it "a Yelp for universities."
