The "Mobility in Higher Education" CIO survey was conducted by the Education Dive editorial staff and is underwritten by Sprint Higher Education Solutions.
As educational institutions acquire more tablets, many administrators are wondering which tablet is the best one on the market. We all know Apple's iPad dominates headlines in the ed tech space—but are the others, like News Corp's Amplify tablet, which is built specifically for the classroom, catching up?
As part of Education Dive's "Mobility in Higher Education" survey, we asked 50 university and college CIOs what type of tablet they use for work. iPads quickly rose to the top, with 72% of CIOs saying they use Apple's classroom-friendly tablet. Android tablets and other iPad competitors rounded out the results with 12% and 16%, respectively, of CIOs saying they use them for work. 6% of CIOs said they do not use a tablet for work while the same percentage said they use more than just one tablet for work.
The survey results may not be entirely surprising, but they reaffirm just how far Apple's iPad remains ahead of the competition:
RESULTS:
iPad — 72%
Other — 16%
Android tablet — 12%
None — 6%
[Editor's Note: 6% of respondents said they use more than one tablet for work. Therefore, the percentages of these results add up to over 100%.]
