Family donating $16.3M to education in Philadelphia

  • Philadelphia schools will get $5.7 million over three years from $16.3 million donation being made by John S. Middleton, a part-owner of the Philadelphia Phillies, and his wife, Leigh Middleton.
  • Career and technology education will be the primary targets for the larger donation, which will also benefit Drexel University and the nonprofit company Philadelphia Youth Network and Philadelphia Academies Inc.
  • United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey will distribute the funds.
