Dive Brief:
- Indiana University’s One.IU is a responsive, easy-to-use campus portal that lets users search for services and then click or tap to go straight to them.
- Campus Technology reports that the portal is a cloud-based solution powered by rSmart, which markets the product as OneCampus and has partnered with more than a dozen other institutions.
- OneCampus can replace or run alongside older versions of the campus portal and its mobile-friendly design may encourage institutions to upgrade systems that aren’t responsive.
Dive Insight:
As colleges and universities consider technology upgrades, making applications and other products responsive is key. At least nine out of 10 students on college campuses arrive with smartphones, and they use them for virtually everything. Making applications mobile-friendly, however, does not mean simply pasting the same content into a smaller format. The colleges that adapt the best consider what it means to be “authentically mobile,” tailoring the content itself for the new format.
