San Francisco State University hasn't named a new president in 24 years, but all of that will change on Aug. 1 when Northern Michigan University President Leslie Wong takes over for outgoing head Robert Corrigan. Wong will become the school's 13th president and inherit significant funding challenges.
Presidents' salaries in the California State University system have been a hot issue recently, underscoring cuts across the board at the state's schools. S.F. State alone will see more than $13 million chopped from its budget going into the new year.
John Gumas, the chairman of the San Francisco State Foundation and a member of the committee that advised trustees during their presidential selection process, called Wong the best choice, though. Gumas praised Wong's fundraising experience in his comments to the San Francisco Chronicle.
