- According to a report by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Mountain State University may lose accreditation in late August because of insufficient “human and financial resources” and a lack of “consistent quality across all academic programs.”
- The not-for-profit university based in West Virginia is encouraging students who are not within a semester of graduating to transfer, will not admit new students and has notified 50% of its employees that their jobs will terminate on September 21.
- MSU will submit an appeal to the commission to extend its accreditation through June 30, 2013, although the university has already begun working with students, offering counseling on financial assistance and transferable credits.
