As institutions figure out how to better serve a population that grew up with the Internet, digital credentialing is at the forefront. LinkedIn in March made a new “Add to Profile” button widely available to colleges and universities, allowing them to give students a one-click option for adding degree progress to their online profiles. Alternative programs are also forging ahead with badging, giving learners a way to advertise skills and prove competencies they got outside of a traditional degree. All of the progress is bound to shake up the historical edge name-brand degree holders have had in the job application process.
